The team at Bottled Water Direct in West Auckland are officially the area's brainiest workforce according to BBC Radio Cleveland.
Quizmasters from the bottled mineral water delivery service, which is part of the Ebac Group Ltd, beat off competition from over 35 other businesses across Teesside, County Durham and North Yorkshire to be named 'War of the Workforce' Champions 2005.
A special play-off final between five local businesses saw Bottled Water Direct come out on top after each had achieved a perfect score in earlier rounds of the competition. Bottled Water Direct beat rivals from Darlington-based Vauxhall dealership Sherwoods, Hays Travel from Stockton, Sainsbury's in Middlesbrough and Darlington's Harrison's Flags to claim the title.
Over the past 38 weeks, BBC Radio Cleveland presenter John Foster has challenged the general knowledge and ingenuity of local businesses during his lunchtime show.
Businesses appeared on John's programme every day for a week. Each day they were set five questions, which they had half an hour to answer using any means necessary. In addition to using their own knowledge, teams could log onto the Internet, phone other businesses or even stop people in the street!
Bottled Water Direct, along with the four other teams, achieved the perfect score of 25 to reach the play-off final.
Dan Kempin, Business Office Manager at Bottled Water Direct said: "Everyone at Bottled Water Direct really enjoyed taking part as it created an increased sense of teamwork and camaraderie in the office. We are proud of our War of the Workforce title, which must be down to all the mineral water we’ve been drinking! Re-hydrating our brains, as well as using our collective talents and initiative, could have been the decisive factor!"
John Foster, BBC Radio Cleveland Presenter, said: "Congratulations to Bottled Water Direct! It was really tense in the play-off week as the teams were taking this really seriously. Over 38 weeks I've asked 925 questions on subjects ranging from naming roundabout sponsors in Ingleby Barwick to finding out which company has a particular VAT registration number! Teams have delved into their collective knowledge, raided the Internet and even phoned total strangers for the answers – it's definintely a unique team building exercise!"
